Dr Francis Makokha (PhD) is a specialist in molecular medicine and works as an Associate Research Fellow at Mount Kenya University (Kenya). His research focuses on understanding the molecular and genetic drivers of cancer in the Kenyan population.
He is currently leading a breast cancer genomics study in Kenya and working towards replicating similar efforts in prostate, cervical, colorectal, and liver cancers.
He also works with collaborators and partners to improve the uptake of HPV vaccine and cervical cancer screening services and patient survivorship using implementation science approaches.
He is currently collaborating with faculty and sector partners to improve cancer control programmes among people living with HIV in Kenya. He has worked with Machakos County and AIC Kijabe Hospital to set up a population and hospital-based cancer registries respectively.
